Teachers in the Peace Corps are accustomed to bridging cultural differences and reaching students whose life experiences exceed their literacy skills.  

Directions:   Using the suggestions from their web site (www.peacecorps.cgov/wws/guides/voices/morereadrespond.html ) review the generic strategies proposed and then make them specific to your own class by selecting a book or story to explore with your student using some/all of the suggestions.  Outline your plan with your small group.
