Module 11, Session 3
Lecture Notes

1. Remind students where they are in working on the problem: decision to let one worker go and the need to obtain more information about each of the workers to make an appropriate decision.

2. Revisit the themes:

  • Basic Computation, Procedure Skills (first 3 sessions)
  • Communicate unknown values (option 4 in session 2)
  • Use tables to solve problems (session 3)
  • Develop logical thinking (first 3 sessions)
  • Apply math to everyday life (first 3 sessions)

3. In small groups, students will use the hours worked by each worker per week to determine hours worked each month and each quarter by each worker. They will then create charts and graphs to show this information. *(If computers are available, students should use Excel and Tables.)

4. Discuss with students what value they see in pupils creating charts and/or graphs. Allow for students to discuss the value of using a graphing calculator.
