Activity 1:
Identifying Similarities and Differences of Wraparound-based
Programming and Alternative Education Settings


After reviewing the key features and elements of wraparound, list the ways wraparound is similar and the ways wraparound is different from typical service planning and delivery in your school district and/or alternative education program.

Consider the following when making your list:

    1. How families are engaged in programming for their students
    2. If/how the perspectives of the family drive the program components.
    3. The use of an individualized team planning process for individual students
    4. The range of participants brought into the planning of services and interventions for individual students.
    5. The inclusion of natural supports in implementing interventions/supports for individual students
    6. How natural supports are used as direct supports for families and teachers of students in alternative education settings
    7. Focus on strengths vs. deficits or problems
    8. The use of informal as well as formal supports

If possible, engage a stakeholder from your system (i.e. an administrator or a parent or student who has had contact with agencies) in a discussion about available services and include their input.
