Activity 1

Directions: Working individually first, respond to each of the tasks below. Then share your responses with your small group. Look for areas of similarity and differences in your responses.


1. Having read the three articles, identify five common principles of teaching students with learning disabilities at the secondary level. Discuss what each principle entails and how teaching is affected with knowledge of the principle.

2. In what way/s are the five principles that you developed in (1) above similar to instructional principles that we use with all students ? Where does and should instruction differ?

3. As a group, decide on a topic in algebra or geometry. Develop a concept strand (task analysis) and manipulatives that you will use to teach each component in the strand.
