~ Module 16, Session 4~
Activity 1

Alicia is in the 12 th grade this year in a non-categorical SDC class. Her IEP goal states that she read a short story at a 6 th grade level and be able to answer 5 comprehension questions. She has had this goal for two years. Alicia currently reads at a 4th grade level and has difficulty with decoding and reading comprehension. It takes Alicia a very long time to read a book and when she had completed the task she has difficulty remembering what she has read.

Identify Alicia’s assistive technology needs as they relate to reading. What is it that Alicia needs to do, but can’t because of her disability. Be specific. What are some strategies that you would use to find the appropriate technology for Alicia? What technology do you think would assist Alicia with reading?
