~ Module 16, Session 6~
Activity 1

Joey has Down syndrome and is in the 10 th grade this year in a Learning Disabilities SDC class. He typically speaks in short phrases that are hard to understand unless he is pointing to pictures or objects. His IEP goal states that he will formulate complete sentences when communicating. Joey can use sight words and icons to read at a 2nd grade level. Joey likes to help with classroom tasks and interacting with peers. He does not currently have assistive technology supports.

What assistive technology needs, if any, does Joey have? Be specific. What should the team take into consideration when determining this need? Who should be part of Joey’s assistive technology team and what are the roles and responsibilities each of these members should have? What types of possible AT solutions can you generate?
