Small Group Activity 3 - Jigsaw Reading

In small groups, students read from the following documents:

  1. Fastback: Tech Prep-A Strategy For School Reform
  2. William Reeves Paper: "Integration of Academic and Vocational Education At The Secondary School Level"

Group 1: From the Tech Prep Fastback, read the section titled:" Partnerships With Business"(pp. 26-28)

Group 2: From the paper, "Integration of Academic & Vocational Education", read Sections H & I (pp. 13-15).

Note: While students are reading in small groups, they are to take notes and be prepared for a group discussion on the following questions:

  1. What are the characteristics of effective school-business partnership?
  2. What are different school personnel's reactions to existing Tech Prep Associate Degree Programs (i.e. - Administrator, Counselor, Teacher).

After reading, the class reconvenes for a group discussion. The teacher facilitates the discussion and calls on a representative from each group to report on five major ideas that were presented in the assigned readings.
