Small Group Activity

 

Directions:

Instructor:

  • Divide your class into small groups
  • Each small group will work on the same set of tasks
  • Each group should consist of 4 - 6 students
  • Divide the group into two working groups
  • This activity should take 30 minutes of working discussion and recording
  • Each group should report their findings
  • It may be helpful to chart the groups findings

Group 1 task:

Given the following scenario, define methods and practices commonly found in educational settings that would be used to address and resolve the issues presented in the scenario.

Scenario:

Martha’s school attendance is sporadic. The school secretary has called Martha’s guardian(s) to determine why she is not at school. The guardian says he doesn't know what to do, because Martha just doesn’t want to go to school.

Group 2 task:

Given the following scenario, define “critically different” methods and practices that could be used to address and resolve the issues presented in the scenario. Consider how you would “think differently”, “react differently”, and “expect differently”.

Scenario:

Martha’s school attendance is sporadic. The school secretary has called Martha’s guardian(s) to determine why she is not at school. The guardian says he doesn't know what to do, because Martha just doesn’t want to go to school.
