Using Facilitative Responses in the Classroom

Feeling Focus - Go beyond the words to the
feelings.
Clarifying and Summarizing - Help students "hear back" their responses. Questioning - Invite the students to share thoughts, ideas, & feelings. Feedback and Confrontation - Give students honest & helpful feedback Directing and Influencing - Help students generate options. |
Work in triads (i.e., speaker, helper, and observer). Each member of the group participates in each of the three roles. The speaker should talk about any personal issue (e.g., a recent challenge, an important time in their life, a decision they have to make, or a conflict they need to resolve). Observers should note facilitative responses and provide positive feedback and areas for improvement.
