Activity 4

1.  Go to the National Center for Educational Outcomes (NCEO) web page at (http://education.umn.edu/nceo/TopicAreas/Accommodations/StatesAccomm.htm). If the NCEO web page is unavailable, pick a state and go to the State’s Department of Education.  In either case, locate the information provided by the state about assessment accommodations for students with disabilities.  Bring the information about the state to class and share with your group.  Answer the following questions.

A.  What state did you look up?

B.  What kind of accommodations did the state list?

C.  What information did the state have for parents?

D.  What kind of information did the state have for accommodating the assessment needs of students in alternative educational settings?

E.  Did you find anything else of interest?

2.  What methods can a teacher use to determine what adaptations students with disabilities will need? 

 

 

3.  What problems might a teacher encounter with other staff (i.e., teachers, administrators, etc.) when trying to adapt assessments in an alternative setting for students with disabilities?  How might these problems be addressed?

 

 

4.  What problems might a teacher encounter with students who don’t have disabilities when trying to adapt assessments in an alternative setting for students with disabilities?  How might these problems be addressed?
