Objectives

Teachers will be able to:

  • List and explain different types of poetic writing.

  • Use poetic writing from students' journals (Session 1) to demonstrate that poetry is not what students think it is.

  • Demonstrate poetry designed for reading and poetry designed for viewing.

  • Select a variety of word play activities to stimulate fluency in writing poetry.

  • Practice writing cinquains, lantern poems, haiku, diamantes, and limericks.
