Objectives

Teachers will understand the differences in words of Latin origin versus words from the Anglo-Saxon layer of language in their letter-sound correspondences and syllable patterns.

Teachers will be able to:
§ Recognize the common use of the schwa in Latin-based words.
§ Divide polysyllabic Latin-based words into syllables.
§ Design a follow-up activity for high school students.
