Activity 1
Directions: Work as a group. Choose one topic in algebra and one topic in geometry. For each topic, do the following: 1. Establish a concrete phase. What manipulatives or other learning tool can assist students with learning disabilities in math learn the topic? Is that the best tool available for them? Explain. 2. Develop a representational phase. What representations can you use with the topic to enable the successful transition of students with learning disabilities in math from the concrete phase to the abstract phase? 3. Develop an abstract phase. This is the phase in which students with learning disabilities in math can deal with the topic in the absence of the tools that mediated in their learning. How do you test students with learn on the topic without them relying on the tools? |
