Activity 1

  1. Think about how you resolve conflict. What style do you use with students in general? Are you aggressive, passive or do you routinely use a problem solving approach?

  1. Develop a conflict scenario from your daily life as an educator. It can be a student-to-student or teacher-to-student conflict. It can also be a significant other conflict. You choose. Role-play an aggressive, passive, and problem solving conflict resolution style. Reflect on all styles and have a thoughtful discussion of all three.
  2.

  3. Think of a recent conflict in your classroom, home, or community. Did the conflict develop as a result of miscommunication? Was gender, race, culture, or ethnicity at the root of the conflict? How did you handle it?

  4. Review the conflict management process and report form. How could you use this with students or clients?
