Teacher Assessment of Student Performance in
Alternative and Correctional Education Facilities

Objectives

Teachers will practice assessment and instructional strategies, which address specific learning needs for students with emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, and communication disorders. Teachers will be able to:

  • Explain the “Goldilocks” principle of assessment and instruction.

  • List factors that must be considered in planning informal assessment and appropriate instruction for students with emotional disturbance.

  • Summarize the basic principles of assessment and instruction for students with learning disabilities.

  • Explain how communicative disorders affects both learning and behavior and strategies to assess and intervene with expressive and receptive language delays.

  • Review strategies to modify the assessment process so that knowledge and skills are not masked by disabilities and to provide appropriate instruction to address/remediate learning difficulties.
