Objectives

Teachers-in-training will examine the effect of challenging behaviors and family dynamics on student growth and development. Teachers can assist parents in providing a "seamless" system to support the replacement of problem behaviors with acceptable behaviors which will support academic success in school as well as success in later life.

Teachers will:

  • Identify modifiable behavior issues common within their teaching environments.

  • Identify opportunities to assist parents in changing family interaction patterns to promote different behavioral outcomes for students.

  • Analyze family dynamics which might inadvertently enable problem student behaviors.

  • Identify resources who could provide family services in the behavioral/mental heath domain.
