Objectives

Teachers will be oriented to the use of basic counseling skills in the alternative education classroom. Rationale for the use of counseling skills is presented.

In this session, teachers will be able to:

  • List the characteristics of teachers who effectively use counseling skills in the classroom.

  • Articulate the benefits of using counseling skills in the classroom.

  • Articulate cultural assumptions and biases about students.

  • Challenge cultural assumptions and biases about students.
